June

What an exciting month!  Taylor ended her school year this month with a lot of celebrations and activities.  She'd been attending year round school and the 18th was her last day for 5th grade.  On the 11th however, they had a volleyball game: 5th graders vs Teachers!  The game was pretty crazy with excitement and competition and with all going on, I'm not sure who won, but I know a good time was had.  Below are a few pictures from the game and Taylor with her BFF's.

Speaking of Volleyball, Bruce has been coaching a team of her classmates through the YMCA.  One season has ended and another one has begun.  The girls (and the coach) have learned a lot and really made some noticeable improvements.  We celebrated the end of the season with a pool party at the house.  We had a houseful of kids and parents accompanied by hamburgers and hot dogs with all the fixin's.

The 18th was a bittersweet day.  Bruce was up earlier as if it was his last day of school.  He was excited to get to school and share this moment with Taylor and her friends.  The early morning consisted of a cup stacking contest and time to mingle a little bit before being released for summer vacation.

The 5th graders were all dressed up for their 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony.  These kids did an awesome job!! They sang their own renditions of "Today's Going To Be A Good Day" by the Black Eyed Peas and Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" with the students interjecting what their favorite Alice Carlson Memory was.  They also performed "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac.  The kids even created a little rap for and about each of their teachers.

The principal and teachers all had words of wisdom to for the kids as they continue on through life.  The principal stressed to Listen to your parents, be able to turn to them, assuring the students that we've all been there before and that we're there to listen and advise if and when needed.  That the parents have their best interest in mind when making each and every decision.  She also mentioned how important it is in choosing who your friends are.  Find friends that will compliment them and their personalities and friends that have their best interest in mind as well.  Be wary of those that call themselves friends who might really turn out not to be.

It was really a very nice, well prepared promotion that I think came off flawless.  Next year will be on to the new All Girls School in Fort Worth!

Afterwards, a reception was waiting for the soon-to-be 6th graders.  A slide show was playing and they served cupcakes and punch.  Below are a few pictures from the reception.

Meantime, Kaitlyn has been super busy learning how to walk and swim and she's now attending the Little Gym making friends, learning to sing different songs and flip and roll around!  She's been to story hour at the local Barnes and Nobel where we heard a couple of stories about some mice so in one of the pictures below you may notice she's playing with a little mouse with a flower that "she made" during story hour.  She loves getting into the cabinets banging on the TV equipment and finding photo albums and what not.  She also likes turning light switches off and playing peek-a-boo around the couches.  Her and daddy love singing Itsy Bitsy Spider.  She's also learning how to say "Taylor" and "Sit" and it sounds like "what's that."

I have had friday's off this summer and that has given me a glimpse of what it could be like as a stay at home mom.  I would be so busy!! Kaitlyn and I would have activities non stop and I would have a half way organized and clean house along with some real cooking I'd like to think.  I could be more involved with Taylor's school volunteering and what not.  Too bad there's not some sort of Tax Incentive to stay at home and raise well behaved, well rounded children...at least ages birth - 5.

And, last but not least, I have been able to squeeze in a few cakes here and there.  I did one for a graduate of Grand Prairie High School.  He was a drummer --so we did a little take off the energizer bunny.  And then we had a birthday to go to that had a Princess and the Frog theme.

July will bring about a few more birthdays -- and one very important birthday!! Kaitlyn will be ONE!  So check back for the photos from that celebration! And - We'll also be finding out what this baby #2 will be this upcoming month.
